[UPDATE: DONE] Task #17: Inputting RadicalRon’s research on “Koslamistan” and “Kooky Kult of Koslam”?

July 19, 2007

More recently, LGFer “RadicalRon” also submitted an email with some research relating to the origins of two terms he feels should be added to the dictionary: “Koslamistan,” and “Kooky Kult of Koslam.”

Some brave person needs to step forward and see if these merit inclusion, and if they do, to create new entries for them and try to integrate this info into the definitions:

I’m a little skeptical on this one. I haven’t really seen either term that much. Of course, I’m more of a night and weekender, and later in the week at that.

Noam: well, your vote counts nonetheless.

That’s one vote against including Koslamistan and Kooky Kult of Koslam in the dictionary.

    Time for my vote:

I also vote against including them. Yes, even though it was me that “nominated” them by posting the task. Frankly, I just haven’t seen them used much, if at all. I get the feeling these are just “wish words” that someone wants to get adopted, but which no one ever did.

So, currently the vote is 0 yays and 2 nays.

Any other votes? And anyone willing to do an LGF search for the terms to see if they’ve really been used much?

Yeah, I’m a little skeptical about those terms also. I would have to say no.

We already have Krazy Kos Kids (Kiddies).

As far as “Stans”, has anyone considered “Dearbornistan” for Dearborn Mich.? It’s certainly in the national lexicon.

I’ll vote against “Kooky Kult of Koslam” and “Koslamistan”. However, the term ‘Kolsam” does get some usage. e.g. “Behead those who insult Koslam”

I believe it came from an article which referred to the Kos Kidz as “Rabid Lambs”

I just did a comment search on LGF for “Kooky Kult of Koslam” [comment="Kooky Kult of Koslam"] and discovered…

I apparently don’t know how to do searches on LGF. I went from today back to 2-7-2001 and 2-7-2001 up to today with no results whatsoever. It either has never been used or, more likely, I need some tutelage on how to do searches.

Trying once more without the ‘comment=’ part…

    And still nothing.

    I stink.

By the way, I really don’t like the the Godwin’s Law-ness of using that moniker, anyway. We should consider carefully before we immortalize it in the LGF dictionary.

Well, it looks like there are now four “nays” and no “yays,” and the voting has been open for several days.

The polling station is empty. No one is around.

And so, I presume no one will complain when I say that voting on this task is now OVER and the final tally is:

    Yes: 0
    No: 4

And so, I will mark this thread as closed and we will NOT put “Koslamistan,” and “Kooky Kult of Koslam” in the dictionary.

    Final note:
KT, as for your suggestion of possibly including just “Koslam” — aside from the parody of that one London protest sign (”Behead those who insult Islam/Koslam”), I’ve basically never seen it used or referred to. That’s just too limited of a usage.

Just a wee bit late tothe dance, but I’m seeing references to “Koslamistan”, “Kooky Kult of Koslam” and variations on same more frequently than when zombie conducted the poll.

Will these humorous, yet very appropriate, references to he himself’s Kooky Kult become more embedded within the lexicon?

Undoubtedly, but it will take time.

So, I suggest that they automatically be included in future polls regarding new additions to the LGF Dictionary.

Until they are added to the LGF Dictionary, it’s safe to say that those employing such terms most likely first encountered one or both while reading comments at LGF.

    All in all, not bad.

    Not bad at all.
